Dirty and unhealthy conditions of Drunkin Donuts were revealed during a health inspection , in Mandon. The inspection came after a video was posted by a former employee that an employee dropping a tray of doughnuts on the floor and placing them back on the shelf.

The health inspector, Leonard Izzo informed, “When I walked in, it was absolutely dirty, the floors were dirty, there was ice on the floor, the counters were really dirty.” When he came for inspections he found many violations. The most disturbing things were that the floors and food preparation surfaces were filthy, and the hand-washing sink wasn’t working correctly.

The manager caught on camera told him the video that prompted the investigation was edited. Some customers weren’t concerned about the findings. One customer stated, “Anywhere you go you don’t know what’s going on, you take a risk no matter what you do,”

The ice containers were open under the counters, where food could easily drop into them. The refrigeration units with items including meat were wide open, leaving the temperatures “way above” what is considered safe. When asked about the water with the counter cleaning solution was last changed, an employee said it had been the same mixture all day. Izzo said the solution should be changed every few hours.  Izzo added that the Board of Health had also recently “got a complaint that the bathrooms were dirty but actually the bathrooms were the cleanest place up there.”

The manager was very cooperative, and started to clean immediately.  He said he waited for an hour while the staff completely cleaned the facility.

Izzo said that the manager claimed that she recently hired someone to clean throughout the day because other employees were too busy, but he was not doing his job.
