LiveCaller has debuted as a real-time identification application for iPhone users, offering a no-cost alternative to services such as Truecaller and Hiya. Leveraging the Live Caller ID Lookup framework launched by Apple with the iOS 18.2 update in December 2024, it showcases incoming call details directly on the call screen. This innovative app safeguards users against spam, robocalls, telemarketing efforts, and fraudulent calls without any charges. In contrast to competing caller ID applications, LiveCaller does not require users to grant access to their contact lists or to create an account.

Created by Sync.ME, the LiveCaller app enables individuals to instantly find information about unfamiliar callers, with the company claiming access to an extensive database of over four billion phone numbers. The app is accessible in 28 different languages and operates exclusively on iOS 18.2 or later versions of Apple’s mobile platform.

The Live Caller ID Lookup framework from Apple empowers caller ID applications to identify unknown incoming calls without needing the app to be open or requiring sensitive permissions. It allows apps to present results for suspected spam or fraudulent calls directly on the incoming call notification or within the full-screen call interface. When an iPhone running on iOS 18 receives a call, the LiveCaller app retrieves and encrypts the number before conducting a lookup. The company emphasizes that this procedure is safeguarded with end-to-end encryption to uphold user privacy, ensuring that call data is not collected.

Numerous caller ID applications currently provide adequate protection against spam and scam calls as well as telemarketers and robocalls. According to government statistics, individuals in India lost over Rs. 177 crore to financial fraud in 2024, a figure that more than doubled from the previous year.

LiveCaller can be downloaded for free from the App Store, serving as an alternative to apps such as Truecaller and Hiya. However, it remains uncertain whether the app will maintain its free model in the future or consider introducing a premium subscription option like its competitors.
