The judge ordered Glenn Beck to reveal sources, even though there is a risk of being killed by “our government or our politicians or political institutions,” he said on Wednesday.

The federal judge in a defamation case against the right-wing commentator ruled on Tuesday that Beck must disclose who told him that a Saudi Arabian student was the “money man” behind the Boston Marathon bombing of April 2013.

Yet the conspiracy-minded Beck warned on his radio show that “confidential sources are under attack” in light of the killing of a Democratic National Committee staffer. He said that protecting the identities of such sources is a longtime tradition under the First Amendment.

Beck said in a clip flagged by Right Wing Watch, a liberal blog, “It is different now. I am convinced, after talking to people in the government and talking through others to sources, I am absolutely convinced that people feel this way: That if I say anything, you know, it used to be, I’ll lose my job.”
